Because Adoption Trauma Deserves Transparency!

Adoption Trauma is Real

It’s the often-forgotten childhood condition that impacts countless adoptees and fosters.

Families are battling the behavioral symptoms right alongside their adopted and foster children.

And mental health organizations rarely include it when talking about mental wellness.

And adoption and foster agencies mainly ignore the research.

Parents are unprepared for how to identify symptoms.

Children go undiagnosed and untreated for far too long.

Children diagnosed in their early to adolescent years can start treatment plans with professionals trained in adoption trauma.

Children could live happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives in adulthood
if they are diagnosed and treated earlier in their lives.

Transparency is Necessary

As early as 1943, separation loss has been identified as detrimental to brain development.
Multiple research studies since then show supporting evidence that this first loss is so profound that children act out in unhealthy ways (lying, stealing, aggression, etc.)
Why aren’t more adoptive and prospective parents and caregivers aware of adoption trauma?
Where’s the education about what it is, what causes it, how it manifests in symptoms,
how parents can get treatment from professionals who are trained in adoption trauma?

Being transparent about adoption trauma is a necessity. Our children’s emotional
and mental health depends on greater understanding around separation loss,
it’s impact on adoptees and fosters, and how to support them.

Let’s raise our voices around adoption trauma. Let’s upset the status quo.
Let’s help ensure our children and families receive the support
they need through greater transparency.
